NY AMA Young Professionals: 2014’s Job Requisites for Marketing Pros

Posted by Wendy Weber

NY AMA
Interesting presentation held at the offices of Resolute Digital earlier this week, with panelists Daniel Jeydel, Client Strategy Manager at Neo@Ogilvy, Jessica Schinazi, Manager, Marketing & Digital Intelligence at Richemont, Carolyn Zale, Marketing Manager at J. Crew, and Matt Beckemeyer, Associate Partner, Search & Analytics at Resolute Digital as moderator.

Advice for young graduates:
o Use your alumni network! Many hiring managers favor graduates from their alma mater.

o Make sure you have a (positive) presence on social media. Every one of the panelists said that they Google interviewees prior to meeting them.

o Go to a little trouble to shine through. For example, if you are interviewing at J. Crew, don’t just come in and say that you love to shop there. Get on the email list; be familiar with the campaigns. Put yourself on “Google Alert” for the companies you are interested in working for.

o Read, learn, educate yourself! Your interviewers are following Searchengineland.com, Mashable.com, Reddit.com, Twitter, Ted Talks, and they universally respect and follow Avinash Kaushik,an entrepreneur and Google Analytics pro. Take a class at General Assembly, go to Meetups, listen to Radiolab.
