Now I’m recruiting for myself

Posted by Wendy Weber

I have been unbelievably lucky to have enjoyed tremendous stability with my staff here at Crandall Associates.

I even have a recruiter who has been with the company for 30 years.

But my beloved, trusted Assistant has just given notice.  She has been with Crandall Associates for nearly 5 years, and she has made herself invaluable to me.  However, she has reached a point in her life where she would like to be more available to pursue personal interests, and spend more time with her family.  I understand.  Truly I do.  But I don’t have to be happy about it!

She has graciously agreed to stay on long enough to help identify and train her replacement.  She has even offered to work on special projects from time to time.  It will be a most amicable parting of the ways.

Now it’s time to put my recruitment skills to use for my own benefit.  This is an important role for us…this person is the engine behind the machine.  The day-to-day responsibilities can be taught over time.  That is just a matter of training.  But initiative, resourcefulness and enthusiasm are harder to screen for during the interview process.

These intangibles are hard to measure, but critical for a good hire.  I have had assistants who, once hired, have sighed when I asked them to research a new idea.  Who needs that?  I want one whose eyes light up with enthusiasm!

Wish me luck.
