It’s different when it affects you!

Posted by Wendy Weber

I am writing this blog post from the home of one of our Researchers in Amherst MA, who has been generous enough to allow us to establish a temporary presence here.

Crandall Associates is located on Long Island, and Long Island was walloped by Hurricane Sandy; 90% of the Island lost power last Monday.  Although Long Island Power has been doing an impressive job of restoring electrical power to homes & businesses, someone has to be first, and someone has to be last, to have their power restored.  It appears that Crandall Associates will fall into the latter category.

Thanks to those of you who have called, emailed, and social media messaged us to convey concern and offer support.  There is not much that anyone can do for us, but it’s nice to hear from you.

I realize now that that I may not have been as sensitive as I could have been when clients in California were affected by earthquakes, clients in DC were buried under blizzards, and clients in Florida were overwhelmed by hurricanes.  “So sorry about the 20″ of snow you received…hope you’re ok…this won’t affect Joe’s interview on Thursday, will it?”

In my zeal to make a connection, or schedule an interview, or secure feedback, I now see that my priorities were not necessarily their priorities.   It’s difficult to wrap your brain around the idea that your client or candidate is struggling just to function when your own office is heated, illuminated, and humming along smoothly.

It’s almost comical to be receiving emails from promoters of industry events, sellers of products, and others who surely have no idea that we are in “survival” mode right now, and happy to have enough access to electricity/power to even read email.

So to those of you who I have called a day or two after a natural disaster, and inquired about whether things would be moving along on schedule…my apologies!  And for those of you who are awaiting answers/feedback/return calls…please bear with us.  From the reports I am receiving, we will be functional again some time this week.  It can’t happen soon enough for me!

In the meantime, I am accessible by phone: 516-287-6209 or email: wendy@crandallassociates.com.

Thank you for your patience and support.
